The contents of this page refreshes automatically. During a woot-off, it will refresh anywhere from every 30 seconds to every 3 seconds, based on how quickly it expects a new item to be posted. Outside woot-offs, it refreshes infrequently, narrowing the window appropriately to refresh quickly around midnight Central, when a new item will be posted. Your browser follows these changes automatically.
This code is entirely original. The web server does not execute any scripts; it just delivers static files, making it very light on server resources compared to others. (Data is retrieved from woot.com and transformed behind the scenes in a separate process which never blocks requests.) Not only that, the information that gets refreshed by your browser is very small—about 750 bytes, 450 if your browser supports compression—ensuring fast load times.
